LACES TEAM WINS eCYBERMISSION CRITERIA AWARD

Four 8th graders from Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies entered the Ecybermission contest sponsored by the US Army. This year, over 13,000 students registered for eCYBERMISSION and formed over 3,300 teams. Out of those 3,300 teams, only 96 were chosen as winners. The LACES team received a criteria award for the Pacific Northwest Division. The entire team will receive $8000.00, that is $2000.00 for each team member. The team members are: Camille Didelot-Hearn, Alison Sanford, Galen Dodd, Stefano Rumi, and Coach Elizabeth Schlum.

The students’ projects was about how to irradicate the Whitefly infestation that is ruining our crops. They experimented with many different types of control methods, organic and nonorganic pesiticides, but found that the natural predator of ladybugs was the most effective and the not harmful to the environment. They were also selected to be in the California State Science Fair in two weeks and were invited to display their work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Congratulations on achieving such a remarkable accomplishment!
